As of today, the ERA (Equal rights amendment) that would have declared “equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex” has not been passed. Proper protocol for ratifying an amendment on a national scale was previously stated to be a ratification by 38/50 states. However, even after this requirement was met many legislatures claimed "the amendment is dead because the timeline for state action has long passed". As disheartening as this may be, we can still make a difference as individuals by signing petitons and writing letters to senators. Together we can raise awareness of this issue and push this amendment to be passed.
